The New Hampshire Outdoor Council (NHOC) is a volunteer organization designed to receive and disburse funds to help and support search and rescue organizations and volunteers.
The NHOC was formed in 1986 as a response to concerns that search and rescue incidents in New Hampshire's backcountry put a burden on public resources.
The NHOC's work includes educational efforts to encourage visitors to act responsibly, both for their own safety and to minimize the dangers to others, which are always present in wilderness search and rescue.
